Installation view - Pictures: Anika Wagner
The orchid is a master of deception. The shapes and tricks of the plant to attract insects have always captured the imagination of people and provide breeding ground for a variety of myths and superstitions. In the installation of K.A.U. the plant is the centre of a confrontation with the question of how expectation shapes perception and therefore an event. Listening to a sound installation inside the small exhibition room with its many windows, the visitor is confronted with the reality outside on the crossroads as a space of transit and residence. They hear people talking who live and work there and report what they associate with the place. The voices and sounds cause a constant shift in the focus of the visitors, impressions of situations instead of objects take over.
