The evening with the Daphnis Quartet and performer Christian Wittmann will focus on motifs from the novel 'Morels Erfindung' (1940) by Argentinian writer Adolfo Bioy Casares and from Arnold Schönberg's 'String Quartet op. 10' (1907/08) with texts by Stefan George. As an early piece of literary media philosophy in the guise of fantastic science fiction literature, the novel was a source of inspiration for the television series 'Lost'. Casares and Schönberg deal with the loss of physical presence in favor of virtual immortality. In Casares, the scientist Morel develops a machine that reproduces a perfect image of people in their outer and inner circumstances. However, the whole thing has a flaw. Shortly after their media doubling, people die. The machine conceived by Morel, however, continues to run - a theatrical perpetuum mobile. Director Matthias Mohr condenses the texts with Schönberg's music into a performative chamber play about virtuality and the longing for indelible images of ourselves.
